July 9: Glens Falls Criterium

Published: 07/02/2006

The Glens Falls Downtown Criterium Cycling Race returns for 2006 on Sunday, July 9 and will feature the fastest course in cycling in historic downtown Glens Falls, NY. At just under 1/2 mile, the race's circuit is arguably the most exciting course in the East for racers and spectators alike. Starting Glen Street, racers will negotiate the tight corner at Ridge Street and progress toward the Queensbury Hotel before making a left on Maple Street. The Civil War Monument on Bay Street marks turn number 3, just 200 yards from the finish on Glen Street near Aimee's Dinner & Movie.

7 separate races ranging from beginner to professional will feature racers from throughout the Northeast and Canada. Races begin at 9:30 AM with the Juniors Race. The 2nd Annual Glens Falls Kids Crit will give kids 12 & under a chance to show off their cycling talents at 12 noon. The final event of the day - the Men's Pro/1/2/3 Race - will start at 2 PM and will feature Healthnet/Maxxis Pro Cycling Team member Mike Jones of Harpursville, NY.
